What Is Dry Needling / Acupuncture?

Dry needling is a technique commonly used by Physiotherapists and Chiropractors. It involves inserting a tiny monofilament needle into a muscle(s) in order to release shortened bands of muscles and decrease trigger point activity. This can help resolve pain and muscle tension, and will promote healing.

This is not traditional Chinese acupuncture, but is instead a medical treatment that relies on a medical diagnosis to be effective. Dry needling is a valuable and effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain. Like any treatment, there are possible complications. While complications are rare in occurrence, they are real and must be considered prior to giving consent for treatment.

Benefits of Dry Needling / Acupuncture

Pain Relief

Dry needling / Acupuncture has been proven to provide significant relief from muscular pain, myofacial tension and ligament pain.

Improved Mobility

After Dry needling / Acupuncture treatment patients see a marked improvement in their mobility, range of motion, and flexibility.

Decreased Muscular Tension

Due to electro-stimulation added to the needling approach, muscles can experience thousands of contractions in a single session. These contractions result in decreased muscular tension and ultimately relaxation.

Improve Circulation

Due to the nature of the treatment, dry needling will naturally increase blood flow to affected tissues.

In many instances a combination of various treatment(s) may provide the best outcomes, which may include: Physiotherapy, Massage Therapy, Chiropractic Care, Custom Bracing for affected joints, Cupping or Kinesiotaping.
